When sourcing replacement gym cables, most buyers focus on the wire rope itself —the diameter, the coating, the flexibility. But the end-fittings are equally critical. They determine whether the cable physically fits your machine, how safely it connects under load, and how easy it is for gym staff to replace.

At Yongrui, we supply fully assembled cable solutions with 60+ accessory SKUs —from bare wire rope to factory-swaged, pull-tested, ready-to-install assemblies. This guide walks you through every decision you need to make.

1. Common End-Fitting Types

The right terminal depends on how the cable connects to the weight stack, handle, or anchor point on your specific machine. Here are the four primary categories:

🔧
Ball Shanks (Cable Stoppers)
YR-1602 Series ยท YR-1605 Series
Pressed onto the cable end to act as a mechanical stop, preventing the cable from retracting through the pulley. Available in galvanized steel (YR-1602) and PVC+Steel stopper form (YR-1605). Most common on weight stacks and selector pins.
๐Ÿ”—
Eyelet Terminals
YR-1603 ยท YR-1604 Series
A flat or teardrop-shaped loop with a bolt hole. Used to connect cable to the weight stack anchor or a fixed pin. Available in galvanized steel (YR-1603) and SS304 stainless (YR-1604) for corrosion resistance. Hole sizes: M6โ€“M12.
๐Ÿ”ฉ
Threaded Studs (Thread Plugs)
YR-1611 Series ยท M12
A threaded rod swaged into the cable end, allowing fine tension adjustment via a locking nut. Essential for ensuring zero slack on lat pulldown stations and cable crossovers. Available in M12 standard thread, galvanized or zinc-plated.
๐Ÿช
Snap Hooks & Carabiners
Quick-Release Attachments
Allow users to quickly swap between handles —lat bar to tricep rope to ankle strap —without tools. Spring-loaded gate mechanism rated for gym load cycles. Ideal for functional training stations and cable crossover systems.
๐Ÿ’ก Sourcing Tip

Not sure which fitting your machine uses? Send us a photo of the existing cable end and the machine model number. Our engineers will identify the exact fitting type and provide a matched replacement spec —free of charge.

3. Why Professional Swaging is Non-Negotiable

In a commercial gym environment, an end-fitting failure is not a maintenance issue —it's a safety incident. A cable under a 200 lb weight stack that pulls free of its fitting can cause serious injury.

What is Hydraulic Swaging?

Swaging is the process of cold-deforming a metal ferrule or fitting around the cable wires using high-pressure hydraulic force —typically 50—00 tons. This creates a permanent, mechanical bond between the fitting and the wire strands that is stronger than the wire itself.

A crimped or clamped fitting (the type sold in hardware stores) relies on friction only. Under repeated load cycling, the clamp loosens. A swaged fitting does not.

Our Quality Control Process

—Safety Note

Never use DIY cable clamps (U-bolt clamps or wire rope clips) on gym equipment. They are designed for static loads only. Gym cables experience dynamic shock loads on every rep —only swaged terminals are appropriate for this application.

4. How to Measure for a Custom Cable Order

To generate an accurate quote and ensure a perfect fit, provide these three measurements:

1

Total Assembly Length

Measure bearing point to bearing point —from the center of the eyelet hole (or the base of the ball shank) on one end, to the same reference point on the other end. Do not measure from tip to tip of the fittings. Example: 1,850 mm BTP

2

Cable Diameter —Two Numbers Required

Specify both the steel core diameter and the finished OD after coating. These are different. Example: ร˜3.18mm core / ร˜4.76mm OD (Nylon coated). If you only have the finished OD, our team can back-calculate the core size.

3

Fitting Specifications

For eyelets: the bolt hole diameter (e.g., 10mm hole for M10 bolt). For ball shanks: the ball diameter and shank length. For threaded studs: the thread size and engagement length. A photo of the existing fitting with a ruler is always helpful.

๐Ÿ“ Can't Measure? We Can Help

Send us a clear photo of the old cable next to a ruler, plus your machine brand and model. Our engineering team can identify the specification from photos alone for most major brands (Life Fitness, Technogym, Precor, Matrix). Submit a photo inquiry →

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replicate a cable just from a photo?
Yes —in most cases. While a technical drawing gives us the most precision, our engineers can determine the correct spec from high-quality photos plus basic measurements (total length and OD). We work with gym maintenance companies that service multiple brands and rarely have original specs on file.
What is the minimum order quantity for custom assemblies?
For fully custom assemblies (specific length + fitting combination): MOQ is 200 pieces per specification. For raw cable by the meter: 500m per specification. For sample/qualification orders: 1—0 pieces available at sample pricing.
What materials are the fittings made from?
We stock fittings in three materials: Zinc-plated steel (standard, indoor use), Galvanized steel (higher corrosion resistance), and SS304 stainless steel (marine/outdoor/premium indoor). All materials are sourced from certified Chinese mills with full traceability.
Do you offer wholesale pricing for gym maintenance companies?
Yes. We have a dedicated wholesale program for spare parts distributors and gym maintenance companies. Volume pricing starts at 50+ assemblies per order. Contact us with your expected monthly volume for a dedicated pricing sheet.
How long does production take for a custom cable order?
Standard stock specifications (common diameters + fittings from our catalog): 7 days. Custom lengths or non-stock fittings: 10—4 days. First-time OEM replication (requires a sample for verification): 14—1 days including approval sample. Express production is available for urgent orders —contact us to discuss.
